Analysis of the Growth of the Nova Scotia Blanding’s Turtle

چکیده
We have determined that the different plastral scutes (rigid sectional plates found on the plastron, the flat shell structure of a turtle’s ”belly”) of Blanding’s turtle grow at different rates, while scute pairs grow homogeneously. Scute width was used as a new growth measurement to model the growth curve of Blanding’s turtle by fitting exponential and polynomial models. We discovered that the Nova Scotia population of Blanding’s turtles follows the Von Bertalanffy model of growth for plastral scutes. In order to determine how population locations and temperature affect the growth of Blanding’s turtle, several statistical modeling techniques are discussed, including linear and non-linear mixed effect models.

A preliminary examination of genetic variation in a peripheral population of Blanding's turtle, Emydoidea blandingii.
Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was used to compare the Nova Scotia population of Blanding's turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) with several populations from the species' main range. The Nova Scotia population is believed to have been isolated from the main range for 4000-8000 years. Cluster analysis using a neighbour-joining algorithm produced a dendrogram showing the Nova Scotia population...
متن کاملEmpirical Study of Nova Scotia Nurses’ Adoption of Healthcare Information Systems: Implications for Management and Policy-Making
Background This paper used the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which was extended, to investigate nurses’ adoption of healthcare information systems (HIS) in Nova Scotia, Canada. Methods Data was collected from 197 nurses in a survey and data analysis was carried out using the partial least squares (PLS) technique. Results In contrast to findings in prior studies that used TPB to investig...

Refugees tend to have greater vulnerability compared to the general population reporting greater need for physical, emotional, or dental problems compared to the general population. Despite the importance of creating strong primary care supports for these patients, it has been demonstrated that there is a significant gap in accessing primary care providers who are willi...
متن کاملBringing Value-Based Perspectives to Care: Including Patient and Family Members in Decision-Making Processes
Background Recent evidence shows that patient engagement is an important strategy in achieving a high performing healthcare system. While there is considerable evidence of implementation initiatives in direct care context, there is limited investigation of implementation initiatives in decision-making context as it relates to program planning, service delivery and developing policies. متن کاملImproving Care for the Frail in Nova Scotia: An Implementation Evaluation of a Frailty Portal in Primary Care Practice
Background Understanding and addressing the needs of frail patients has been identified as an important strategy by the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA). Primary care (PC) providers are in a key position to aid in the identification of, and response to frailty as part of routine care. Unlike singular chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension which garner a disease-based appr...
